Holiday Things to do in Tampa in December

Downtown Tampa transforms into a glittering winter wonderland overflowing with festive light displays and winter activities each year. Future residents of Elevé 61 will have the opportunity to experience these annual traditions, conveniently located right on their doorstep.

Although South Florida may not get any snow, there are still plenty of winter-themed things to do in Tampa in December. Here is our list of highly anticipated celebration staking place for the City of Tampa holidays.

Winter Village at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park – November 22 to January 5 

Celebrate the magic of the holidays in Tampa at the Winter Village located in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. Every year, this urban park is completely transformed with the sights, sounds and activities of the holidays.

Boutique Shopping

The Shops of Winter Village feature 10 boutiques from local artisans offering gifts for everyone on your list. This “pop-up” holiday shopping experience features decorative Victorian Christmas goods, apparel, toys, jewelry, dog accessories and more! 

Pop-Up Dining

Taste the spirit of the holiday season at the Icicle Craft Kitchen, where a variety of festive fare is available for sampling accompanied by seasonal spirits.

Ice Skating

Visit Downtown Tampa’s only outdoor ice rink and enjoy views of the beautiful Tampa Riverwalk and Hillsborough River as you skate under the stars. Ice skating tickets include skate rentals and 90 minutes of uninterrupted skating. Tickets can be purchased at the rink entrance. 


Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to these festive film screenings, which are typically hosted as bonus Curtis Hixon park events during the holiday season. Movie concessions are available at the Icicle Craft Kitchen, and there’s plenty to do in the Winter Village before the previews start! Admission is free and open to the public.

Tree Lightings

Hyde Park Village – November 23 

The annual Enchanted Tree Lighting takes place in late November in Hyde Park Village, only a short drive from Elevé 61. Complimentary on-site parking is available in either of Hyde Park Village’s garages.  

The joyful event will feature live music, photos with Santa, delicious bites, festive spirits and other beverage options. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the holidays in Tampa. 

While you’re in Hyde Park this season…

Keep an eye out for Santa, as he’ll be traveling from shop to shop for a series of photo-ops and special events!

Catch a movie with your loved one as you explore the tastefully decorated village. Stroll to Cinébistro and enjoy the latest blockbusters paired with an upscale dining experience served right at your seat.

Armature Works – December 1​

Don’t miss the first annual tree lighting at Armature Works from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. This all-new event is sure to make the City of Tampa holidays especially merry and bright.

The tree will light up Armature Works at 7 PM, immediately followed by a performance from the Salvation Army Brass Band. Seasonal drinks and delicacies will also be available for purchase from any of the market’s 14 elevated dining concepts.  

Curtis Hixon – December 6

Attend Tampa’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony overlooking the sparkling Hillsborough River. The event will include a mayoral countdown to the tree lighting, followed by a big-screen showing of the modern holiday classic Elf.

Next Generation Ballet’s Nutcracker is a sensational holiday tradition in Tampa. The show features principal dancers from New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre, in addition to NGB’s award-winning young dancers.

The Florida Orchestra – Holiday Pops – December 13

The Florida Orchestra returns for its annual Holiday Pops concert at the Straz Center, conducted by Daniel Black. Come and experience the joyful and triumphant sounds of the holiday season!

Christmas Events in Tampa

Stop by the Tampa Theatre to watch your favorite holiday classics. Featured films include Miracle on 34th StreetElf, Sing-Along White ChristmasIt’s a Wonderful Life, and Love Actually.

The Winter Village Express will make its way from Downtown’s Whiting Station to Ybor and back on the TECO Line Streetcar. 

This unique holiday adventure is a one-hour, round-trip excursion. The ride features a festive sing-along, holiday trivia, milk & cookies and a few other surprises along the ride. 

onBikes Winter Wonder Ride – December 14

The Winter Wonder Ride is back for the holidays in Tampa. ‘Tis the season to light up your clothes and bicycles for this annual charity bike ride that funds the purchase of bicycles and helmets for at-risk kids.

The annual ride winds through downtown and passes along the beautiful waters of Bayshore Boulevard, before returning to Curtis Hixon Park for an exciting Post-Ride Celebration. This year’s celebration features a live performance from CeeLo Green.

Friends of the Riverwalk Lighted Boat Parade – December 21 |6:30 PM

The Lighted Boat Parade is one of the most popular things to do in Tampa in December. The parade begins at 6:30 PM and will travel along the Hillsborough River, passing destinations such as Armature Works, The Straz Center, Curtis Hixon Park, The Sail Pavilion, Harbour Island and Sparkman Wharf. 

No matter where you stop on the Riverwalk to watch the parade, you’re guaranteed a great view of this spectacular light show. 

Grinchmas at Sparkman Wharf – December 19

Come and meet the Grinch and enjoy the Whoville Singers at Grinchmas in Sparkman Wharf. The event will take place from 5 to 8 PM.
