It’s easy to get back and forth from Harbour Island either by foot, bike, TECO streetcar or boat! The Harbour Island Bridge will be your pedestrian gateway to travel on and off the island.

Brief History of Harbour Island Tampa

The island was originally named Seddon Island after W. L. Seddon, chief engineer for the Seaboard Air Line Railway. A hearing was conducted back in 1906 to plan a new port for the city of Tampa, and Seddon’s plans were adopted for an area they had intended to call Grassy Island!

The island later sold in 1979 and plans emerged for the development of residential, office and retail spaces. Construction began shortly afterward, and Harbour Island was soon linked to Downtown Tampa by an automated tram that ran from the island to the mainland.

Today, Harbour Island consists mostly of private residences, a yacht club, Westin hotel, and a handful of popular restaurants and small shops specializing in coffee and café delights.
